How Could You Think You Were Number One?

I'm thinking maybe I should stop caring so much about what other people think.

I'm not talking about becoming arrogant or conceited...just not as concerned. I mean, it has to be liberating to go around with a "I don't care if you like me or not" attitude right?

And I'm sure "I don't care what you think about what I just said or did" is nice too. I'm thinking it's probably just a waste of time caring about what others think most of the time anyway. Always wondering about someone's opinion of you, and just where your reputation currently stands with them. Who needs that?

Sounds like a job for insecure people who want to be in the limelight, or politicians...and what good do they do for us the vast majority of time?

Who even really cares? Most people are just as self-absorbed with themselves as they can be anyway. Who are they to me? Who am I to them?

All the same, I hope that you really like me and that you think I'm really cool. I'm gonna be really hurt if I find out that you don't...

What True Friends Are For

Don't you just love people who let you off easy?

You know the kind of people I'm talking about. The ones who always seem to "understand" and who never choose to call you on your excuses or cop outs.

Yeah, me too.

Thing is, we really do need those who will "shoot it to us straight." The kind of people who will tell us what we need to hear...instead of just what we want to hear.

You know, the kind of people who will tell you when you have a little mustard on your face from that sandwich you just ate, or if you have your t-shirt on inside out.

Or that some toilet paper somehow came out with you from the bathroom.

Or that you may have a gambling problem.

Or that maybe you've been drinking too much.

Or...fill in the blank.

As much as the truth can hurt, it really can set us free if we will allow it to. Thank God for those who help us to see it from time to time.

How Has That Escape Plan Worked For You So Far?

Ever wonder how many people have completely destroyed their lives in search of a good time?

I really don't like having to admit it, but Happy Hog used to get high...pretty much everyday for about six and a half years.

I thank God that all I ever did was drink alcohol and smoke weed. God only knows what might have happened if I had ever tried any of the hard stuff.

And I'm happy to report that I live a much better life as a completely sober person now days. Life certainly is complicated enough as it is without alcohol and drugs wouldn't you agree?

Here's an experience that I felt I should definitely share with others...

One Sunday afternoon after waking up, I decided that it was, once again, time to get high. I started to load up my pipe and noticed that the screen was all tarred up and needed to be cleaned.

I put down the cigarette I had lit up, and walked into the kitchen to get a knife to scrape the screen clean. As I was heading back into the room where my pipe was, I heard a kind of hissing sound.

When I got into the room, I looked down and saw that I had layed my cigarette on on top of my lighter. The cigarette had melted the lighter so that the lighter fluid in it was spraying out, and yet the cigarette had miraculously went out before igniting it.

Years ago I had heard that a lighter can be as explosive as three sticks of dynamite. Maybe so, maybe not.

Either way...quite sobering to think about isn't it?
