Happy Hog Meets Mother Goose

Once again...story time!

Last week I took a drive down to Lake Van in Dexter, NM. Sometimes it's really good to get out and see some nature. I drove around most of the lake and pulled over to walk out on one of the piers to look out over the lake, pray, and reflect on some things that have been on my mind.

As I walked up to the pier, I noticed a goose looking up at me. It was on my left side, in the water, just a few feet from land. I'm guessing it was protecting an egg or two, because when I got near it, it started hissing at me.

I looked down at it and said in a kind of mockingly stern way, "Hey! You be cool!" It just hissed at me again, so I decided to hiss back at it, and then walked on out to the end of the pier, smiling and thinking about what a nut I can be sometimes.

As I walked back and forth from one end of the pier to the other, I would notice it looking right at me, no doubt wondering what I was up to. And when I went to walk by it to leave...well, you guessed it, more hissing. I have to say, that goose was very serious. I was really thinking that it might start coming after me at any second.

And now that I think about it, it would certainly explain why, despite all the people that were out there that day, that pier was the only one that was empty.

OinK!
